The 2009 event marks 29 years of support for child abuse prevention and treatment programs at The Howard Phillips Center. With budget cuts on the rise and children’s services in high demand, the Dick Batchelor Run helps raise money for those who need it most through the child abuse prevention and treatment offered at the center. The Dick Batchelor Run generated over $50,000 in support for the Howard Phillips Center in 2008.
“In times of economic downturn, children are often affected the most. Poverty is one of the top risk factors for abuse, so it’s not surprising that the state of our economy is having a profound impact on our community’s children,” says Carmel Munroe, PhD, the director of the Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families. “Now is the time to stand up for them, and give them a voice when they need it the most. The Dick Batchelor Run is the Howard Phillips Center’s largest event, and our best opportunity to raise funds and awareness for our cause. If anyone is wondering how to stand up for children, then this is your opportunity to run for them. Events like the Dick Batchelor Run can make all the difference in the life of a child who needs help.”
The Howard Phillips Center is widely-recognized as one of the leaders in the country for its cutting-edge advocacy and outreach programs. One of its model programs is the Orange County Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), a treatment center for abused children where healing begins for kids as young as three years old. The CAC, and other similar programs at The Howard Phillips Center, rely heavily on support from the community, as well as events like The Dick Batchelor Run for the Children, which is the largest fundraiser for the programs at the center.
You can help support The Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families in a variety of ways. Participants are encouraged to collect donations from family, friends and co-workers.
